Candidates who are interested in applying for the officer posts as Group A gazette officer on the rank of Assistant Commandant should be alert about notification. Mainly, the notification of recruitment shall be issued in the months of Jan/ Feb and Aug/ Sep every year. Here also, candidates can join under Short Service Commission or Permanent Commission as per the preference.

1- General Duty Branch
General duty branch is open for both male and female candidates on the ranking post of Assistant Commandant. Male candidates will be selected under Permanent Commission while female candidates are under Short Service Commission. General duty branch officer posts includes
- Assistant Commandant (GD) – For Male candidates
- Assistant Commandant (GD)-SSA – For Female candidates
- Assistant Commandant (GD-P-CPL)-SSA – For male and Female Both
Candidates should be between 21 years and 25 years as per prescribed date issued by commission. Candidates applying for the posts of Pilot, Navigator or observer should be between 19 years and 27 years. Age relaxation is given to SC/ ST candidates by 5 years while OBC candidates have been given 3 years benefit in upper age limit.
Candidates should hold Bachelor’s degree with minimum 60 % marks in aggregate from a university/ institute recognized by State or Central Government. Additionally, candidates should have passed 12th with 60 % marks in Physics and Mathematics.
Candidates applying under the Pilot, Navigator, or Observer posts should hold B. Sc degree with 60 % aggregate marks in Physics and Mathematics. They should also have scored 60 % marks in 12th standard.
To qualify for the posts in General duty branch, candidates have to pass physical measurement test.
Male candidates applying for general duty branch should posses fit body with at least 157 cms height and weight proportionate to their height. Female candidates should have height of 152 cms with proportionate weight. Additionally candidates should possess eye sight of 6/6 & 6/9 without glasses.
For applying on post of Pilot, Navigator, or Observer candidates should have minimum height of 162.5 cms and maximum height of 197 cms with leg length of 99 cms minimum.
2- Technical Branch
Under Technical branch, candidates are selected for Mechanical, Aeronautical, and Electrical stream.
Candidates between 21 years and 30 years are eligible to apply for Technical Branch officer post. Age relaxation up to 5 years in upper age limit is given to SC/ ST candidates while OBC category candidates are given 3 years extension.
Candidates applying under Technical branch should hold Degree in Naval Architecture/ Mechanical/ Marine/ Electrical/ Electronics/ Telecommunications/ Design/ Production/ Aeronautical/ Control Engineering or equivalent from a recognized university.
Candidates should posses at least 157 cm height with proportionate weight and eye sight equivalent to 6/6 and 6/36.
3- Law Branch
Indian coast guard law branch recruits officer on post of Deputy Commandant (Law) Both male and female candidates can apply for this officer entry subject to educational qualification, age limit.
Candidates should be of age less than 45 years however relaxation in age up to 5 years is allowed to government employees.
Aspirants willing to apply on post of deputy commandant in law branch of Indian Coast Guard should hold degree in law from any recognized university and 8 years of experience in legal matters. Also their qualification should be such that they can apply for enrollment in High Court. Candidates having Post graduate degree in law and having exposure to international and maritime law will be preferred in selection.
Minimum height of candidates should be 157 cm (Male) and 152 cm (Female) and weight should be in proportion to height. A 6/6 vision without glass and 6/12 with glass is desirable.
