Entry schemes of Airman in Indian Air Force
Group Z : Non Matriculation Combatant
In this entry level, aspirants who are single and in an age group of 17 years and 35 years can join Indian Air Force as Combatant Group Z. Aspirants should have knowledge of Maths and ability to read and write English along with expertise in playing one instrument among trumpet/ bass/ violin/ saxophone/ clarinet/ euphonium/ jazz drum/ piccolo/ bass trombone/ keyboard. They can join Indian Air force in Non Technical Trades under Combatant Group Z. After joining under this group, candidates are liable to get promotions and moved to Group X or Group Y or even escalated as officer.
Group Y: Matriculation Combatant
In this Combatant Group Y, aspirants in the age group of 16 years and 20 years can join Indian Air Force as a Technical or Non technical trades. Aspirants should be single male who have passed matriculation or equivalent with aggregate 60% marks with English. They may apply for technical trades in ground duty branch. Aspirants can also become combatant Group X or officer, considered on their performances.
Candidates who have passed matriculation with 45% aggregate marks and passed English as a subject can also apply for combatant Group Y Non technical and join Indian Air force as Airmen. Under this category, aspirants can also apply in Mechanical Transport Driver (MTD) trade as Airmen.
Group X: Combatant intermediate (10 + 2) or Diploma/ Degree
Candidates who have better qualifications and physically fit can join Indian Air Force as Airmen in Combatant Group X in ground staff. Eligibility of candidates is measured on age brackets and education qualifications. Aspirants should be unmarried and between the age group of 16 years and 22 years, passed intermediate in 10 + 2 pattern or equivalent with compulsory English, mathematics and Physics subject. They must have secured at least 50% marks aggregately in intermediate or have completed diploma in Engineering in trades of mechanical/ electrical/ electronic/ automobile/ computer science/ instrumentation technology from recognized university or institute.
Under combatant Group X, candidates with high education are also enrolled depending on the degree they possess. Graduates and post graduates can apply up to the age of 25 years, but also at the same time they must have completed 20 years of age. Candidates are enrolled as Senior Non Commissioned Officer in education trade under these special categories. For these positions candidates must possess qualifications such as (a) B. A. (Hons)/ B. Sc. (Hons) (b) B. A. / B. Sc. with a teaching degree or diploma (c) B A/ B Sc with a one-year teaching experience. One thing must be remembered that candidates who have done Masters Degree can apply up to age of 28 years.
Basically candidates engaged under these categories are liable to take responsibilities of classes, examinations, maintenance, administration of Libraries, information rooms and educational schools.
Notifications are released in Employment news and Rozgar samachar along with all the details and format of application. Aspirants are tested on various terms set by Air Force. Recruitment of Airmen are made through (1)Airforce Recruitment Rallies and (2) All India Selection test.
